What’s your current occupation?
Direct-Response Copywriter & Marketing Consultant
What’s your former occupation?
Secretary
What was the first project you landed?
Writing the Hypnotic Publicity website sales letter for Dr. Joe Vitale. (It was live for 4 years.)
What are your current projects?
I have 2 local clients on monthly retainer for creating and implementing their lead generation and customer retention programs. I’ve also just finished writing an advertorial for a leading chiropractic magazine. I’m also creating a syllabus style course for Accelerated Training Services.
What has been your proudest copywriting moment?
My proudest moment (and it’s hard to pinpoint just one) just occurred within the last month. I achieved one of my biggest goals. My husband and I love to travel around in an RV. We are now the proud owners of a 31-foot Class A motor home with two slide-out rooms. And I just bought a brand-new state-of-the-art 17" notebook computer, with wireless Internet and a portable printer so I can take my work on the road. It’s so cool! I can surf the net and work while we’re en route to our next destination.
What’s your favorite niche to write for?
What’s your writing routine?
I typically get up early, about 5:50 a.m., shower, and have breakfast with my beloved Bob. Then I head down the hall to start my work day by writing in my journal and reading a sales letter. Then I look at the work I laid out the night before and dig in. In the afternoon I’ll grab one of my copywriting or marketing books and go to the motor home and read. I love being in there!
Please give us an example of how your life has changed since becoming a copywriter.
I have so much freedom with my schedule. If I want to take a day off, or an afternoon or whatever, I’m in control of making it happen. I’ve also loved discovering the fact that I’m capable of creating the lifestyle I want.
What success tip would you like to share with your fellow writers?
When the “Can I really do this?” doubts try to creep into your thoughts, acknowledge they are there. Then tell them to go away and immerse yourself in reading or writing or researching to get your mind busy. Don’t ever cave in and give up. These questions are really telling you that you’re very close. Just keep going!
When did you realize you were living the copywriter’s life?
Probably about 5 years ago. I’ve been able to take off when my daughter gave birth to two beautiful baby girls. And we regularly visit our other children in Iowa and Illinois. I take my work with me and set aside time to get the things done I need to do. Thankfully, I can slow things down when I want so I can enjoy family visits.
