What’s your current occupation?
Copywriter
What’s your former occupation?
Business Development Manager
What was the first project you landed?
My first project was a spec assignment from a financial newsletter. My first paying project came from a very large natural health website. All of these opportunities were a direct result of attending my first Job Fair during the 2006 Bootcamp in Delray Beach, Florida.
What are your current projects?
I have current projects in both the health and financial markets I’m working on.
What has been your proudest copywriting moment?
When I received that first check in the mail for my work. Also, one of the sales ads I wrote for a product on the natural health website sold the product out within 6 hours and created a huge backlog. It’s nice to get paid for your work, but the satisfaction of helping clients makes it all worthwhile.
What’s your favorite niche to write for?
What’s your income goal for this year?
Over $100K
What’s your writing routine?
I get up early and begin working on projects by 6 a.m. I take short breaks every few hours but pretty much keep at it up until noon. I take a few hours to recharge the batteries and finish up the day from 3-6 p.m. In the afternoon, I focus more on self-marketing and research. Most of my writing is done in the morning hours.
Please give us an example of how your life has changed since becoming a copywriter.
I really enjoy not having to commute and work in the corporate world. I feel much more satisfied running my own business and feel even closer to my family.
What success tip would you like to share with your fellow writers?
Make sure you attend the annual AWAI Bootcamp, find yourself a great mentor, and don’t ever give up your dream.
When did you realize you were living the copywriter’s life?
When I was able to sleep later on a Friday morning, knowing that I had completed a major project on time the night before.
