How A Three-Day “Beach Trip”
Allowed Me To Pay Off
$80,510.43 Of Debt

Not Only That, It Virtually Cemented My Future Success as a Freelance Copywriter. Now, I’m Living My Dream and It Only Gets Better Each Year.

But I’m Not Alone. Sean McCool, Pam Foster, Henry Bingaman, and Cindy Cyr are just a Few Other Copywriters Enjoying the Same Success —

All Because We Did One, Simple Thing …
Something You Can Do This Year

Dear Reader,

I was at a make-or-break stage in my career.

I’d been interested in copywriting for a while, but hadn’t figured out how to make it work for me.

I read about other copywriters hitting it big and landing six-figure incomes, but my first few years of effort were pretty insignificant.

Plus, I had a new baby at home, a mountain of debt, and more self-doubt than was good for me.

That’s when I made my all-or-nothing decision. I would go to AWAI’s Bootcamp, baby in tow. I’d give this copywriting dream one last-ditch effort. If it didn’t work, I would tuck my dreams away and resign myself to a life controlled by a boss and an alarm clock.

You’re Hired!

Things kicked off in high gear the very first night of the conference when legendary Herschell Gordon Lewis unveiled his Clarity Commandment. This was followed by an inspiring banquet dinner, which I’ll tell you about in a minute.

For now, let’s skip to the second day of the conference. The excitement had only gained momentum. Not only did the speakers present loads of simple ways to get your copywriting business off the ground, they were also totally approachable.

I’d expected they’d be like presenters at other conferences who disappear the minute their time on the stage is up. That wasn’t the case at all. The whole lineup of Bootcamp speakers seemed sincerely interested in the questions they got from aspiring copywriters. I was surprised (and thrilled) they took my questions so seriously and offered so much free advice on my business plan.

We weren’t even halfway through the conference and most attendees were already bursting with new ideas to speed their business and income progress. I know, because that’s what everybody talked about during breaks: “Finally, I know how to get my health copywriting plans to take off!” or “Yes! I just figured out how to position myself as an expert B2B writer!”

You’d be surprised how many other first-time attendees had been a breath away from giving up altogether, only to discover — thanks to Bootcamp — that it didn’t have to be so hard. That, in fact, it could be very easy to live the freelance lifestyle while earning a large income.

In the year before, I’d gotten tired of struggling to find clients and coming up short on money — can you relate? Little did I know, I’d been doing everything all wrong. Bootcamp gave me the fix I needed. In fact, I walked away with a contract that paved the way for me to earn my first six-figure income in 2010 — $100,593.00, to be exact.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself — let me take you back to that career-changing Bootcamp.

When you’re there, you’ll get fueled by the energy of the conference. You’ll rekindle your motivation to take charge of your life and live the freelancer’s dream. That’s what happened to me. Once I was high on that energy, I headed to the lobby on that second day to meet with Rebecca Matter, Co-managing Partner at AWAI.

I’d chosen Rebecca for my special Bootcamp one-on-one-with-a-marketer meeting (one of the bonuses you get when you attend) because I’d heard she was in the process of launching a new website called the Wealthy Web Writer. Though I wasn’t sure I was ready, I’d built enough confidence from the Bootcamp sessions to tell her about an idea I had.

You know what happened after I told her? She said the very words I’d come to Bootcamp to hear: “You’re hired!”

Now imagine … what would happen if you came to Bootcamp and sat down with Rebecca, or Paul Hollingshead, or Don Mahoney … What if you shared your ideas and background and heard those same words — “You’re hired!”

The ONE Thing You Can’t Get From Working At Home

Bootcamp 2009 marked a changing point in my career, in more ways than one. Actually meeting other copywriters who were enjoying the good life and making six-figure incomes made me realize this is the real thing.

On top of that, coming face to face with people like yourself who share your dream (and struggles) is empowering.

Yet, Bootcamp introduces you to so much more than a support system. It’s like you get special access to an “opportunity network” that builds from the first day you set foot in Delray Beach. Doors open for you once you get to know the real people behind the big copywriting names.

From there, it’s like the domino effect. Once you make one connection, other opportunities begin to surface.

That’s exactly what happened for Cindy Cyr. She built a lucrative client network from just one strategic contact. Now, she writes for famous motivational speaker Zig Ziglar and has a steady stream of web clients who pay thousands of dollars for her copy.

But that crucial, business-building personal connection is only icing on the cake. Because every speaker presentation is so chock-full of compelling copywriting concepts, the quality of the copy you write will take a giant leap forward.

You might relate to the way I’d felt up to that point: “If I just studied a little more, or did a few more practice assignments, my copy skills would improve.”

Maybe. Probably, in fact. But it would have taken a heck of a lot longer to get good. If I’d dragged the learning process out much further, I would have been at risk for giving up.

Thanks to Bootcamp, every aspect of life as a copywriter became easier. From building a business to researching content to increasing fees … it all started to make sense. When you go, you’ll even get help with the little bumps along the way, like figuring out a niche and learning just what to say (or not say) to potential clients.

I firmly believe it was the face-to-face connection I had with Rebecca that cemented my success as a copywriter. The project we hammered out not only ensured I could keep living the freelancer’s life … it also gave me the confidence to stick to my goal of earning six figures.

I went on to pursue new clients for big fees. I earned more money in a shorter time than I ever imagined possible. In fact, I was able to pay off all my debt — $80,510.43 to be exact — and still had money left over.

You’ll Become Part Of The
“Power Player” Insider’s Club

Here’s another thing that will floor you about Bootcamp: The level of personal attention you get from the biggest players in the copywriting world. Katie Yeakle, Paul Hollingshead, Don Mahoney, and even Michael Masterson are all easy to talk to — and ready to help you.

AWAI’s Bootcamp is nothing like other conferences. I’ve been to some live events where the power players act like they’re part of an elite kind of club and newbies don’t dare talk to them. But at Bootcamp, it’s entirely the opposite.

“I’ve been to many seminars and conferences through the years and your AWAI event (Bootcamp) is by far the cream of the crop. You and your team did everything possible to make us feel comfortable and to give us an experience I know I’ll never forget.”

– Rick D.,
Newmarket,
Ontario, Canada

The first time I spoke to Paul Hollingshead, he approached me and asked about my story. “How’s copywriting working out for you? What can I help you with?” It amazed me. Here was a guy with tons of success, who certainly didn’t lack in friends … yet seemed genuinely interested in helping me become a successful copywriter.

Incredibly, they’re all like that. Katie Yeakle is as genuine and supportive as they come. Rebecca’s enthusiasm is contagious. The entire AWAI crew has real passion for what they do. In an age where there are too many gimmicks and get-rich-quick-schemes, here are real people with heart behind their company.

I know it’s easy to feel skeptical … but if you show up for Bootcamp, you become part of their family — even before you’ve made a name for yourself. It’s like you gain entrance into a society of generous, friendly, willing-to-help folks that all but guarantees your career will take off.

Careers Are Launched At This Event —
I Should Know!

My first full year of copywriting, I didn’t even break the $22,000 mark. Even making that much was a struggle. I couldn’t decide on a niche. I didn’t really know how to handle certain client situations. Transitioning from my previous job had been messy.

Yet, if I’d known then what I learned at Bootcamp, everything would have been a lot easier. My income would have gone up a lot quicker. In fact, thanks to what I got out of that last Bootcamp, my income did shoot up — by 457%!

It blows me away to know I broke the six-figure mark in only my third year of copywriting. Even better, I discovered you can do it without working yourself ragged. You can still take vacation (I took about six weeks). You can cut out early when you want (I’d often meet my husband for lunch or run a quick errand before the crowds hit).

Sure, you’ll spend plenty of time at your desk, writing copy. And if you’re like me, you might make mistakes along the way. But, you’ll have plenty of people to lean on — people you’ll meet when you get to Bootcamp — who will help you when you get stuck. You’ll also learn a lot from each project you take on. Best of all, you’ll have a great time.

It all starts with Bootcamp. Three days in Delray Beach can launch your career, and you could have a breakout, six-figure year just like mine.

Turn Your Learning Into Earning —
In the Shortest Possible Time

Let’s face it — life can get hectic. If you started AWAI’s Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting a while ago and haven’t finished it, you’re not alone. I realized this before I even got to Bootcamp.

You see, the first time I went to Delray Beach, I ended up sharing a ride from the airport with seven other people. Most of them were beginners, like me. Five of them hadn’t even finished the program yet. Three had been “dabbling” in it for years.

“I used to think the AWAI copywriting program – and a few other good books on copywriting – would be more than enough for me to get started. But now that I’ve been to Bootcamp, I’ve completely changed my perspective on this. When you make the commitment to go to Bootcamp and meet the people behind it … it becomes a truly profound experience.”

– Jason G.,
London, England

“All the speakers were great, but Herschell Gordon Lewis was my favorite, and the one I learned the most from. He pointed out obvious errors on envelopes and showed us how a subtle change in words makes a sales letter go from okay to great.”

– Laura M.,
Phoenix, AZ

Every one of them realized they needed something more. They didn’t want to let their dreams die, but going it alone wasn’t working. They wanted a push — a jumpstart, really.

That’s exactly what they got. Being at Bootcamp is like skipping to the head of the line. It’s like you press the fast-forward button in school and find yourself on stage with a diploma in hand. You leave qualified and ready to pursue real, paid assignments — but you have the safety net of all your new contacts and resources to lean on as you work.

You’re able to move so quickly because you get access to the top experts in every genre. Many are the biggest names in direct marketing. Through Bootcamp, I’ve personally met and spoken with Joe Vitale, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Clayton Makepeace, Ted Nicholas, Dan Kennedy, Mark Everett Johnson, Chris Marlow, and Heather Lloyd Martin, just to name a few.

I’ve even had lunch with other power figures like Matt Furey and Don Hauptman. Both times were by chance — we just happened to sit at the same table. But that’s how Bootcamp works. It’s easy to mingle with the major players in copywriting.

A lot of the speakers will join in on breakfasts and breaks and walks on the beach. If you pay attention, you’ll pick up secrets that will land you paying jobs with clients who constantly come back to you — and make your dream of having complete, fulfilling control of your life a reality.

Thanks to Bootcamp, I now have a solid, marketable skill that lets me wear slippers to work while still getting paid more than most of my friends. It’s like I earned my stripes just by showing up at the beach. You can, too.

This IS The Real World — And It Pays You Well!

Bear in mind, taking a forward leap in your copywriting career has everything to do with the real-world style of Bootcamp. You won’t get bored by theory and hypothetical situations. You get to see live samples and talk with working experts active in the field, all of whom go home to tackle their next projects.

If you’re having trouble picking a niche, you’ll get a clear perspective on what each area of copywriting involves. You’ll be able to pick the one that best fits you and matches your interests.

You could probably even talk to Pam Foster about it. She recently zeroed in on a specific niche (in a subject she happens to love) and landed seven clients in seven weeks. She also banked more than $30,000 in the process! Pam has been at every Bootcamp since 2006. You can tell there’s a reason she keeps coming back.

A lot of it has to do with all the expert advice you’ll get. Master copywriters go out of their way to break down the details of writing compelling leads, pulling out the most gripping bullet points, building powerful emotional connections, writing killer headlines, merging web copy and SEO techniques … you name it, they’ll probably cover it.

Plus, you’ll learn ways to increase your productivity, easy self-promotion strategies, best tips to manage your time, and (most importantly), how to ramp up your income.

Get Your Own Personal “Shot Of Adrenaline”

I call Bootcamp my annual “shot of adrenaline.” It’s what powers me through the year until I can return to the beach and get reenergized.

You’ll see yourself, as soon as you get there — excitement and energy take over. The very first night, you’ll get your first “dose” of what I mean. That’s because Bootcamp kicks off with a great big celebration banquet, called the Wall of Fame Dinner. It’s when the biggest banquet room at the Marriott gets packed to the gills with delicious food and animated attendees who represent every stage of the copywriting journey.

Which reminds me, you should know about AWAI’s Wall of Fame. It’s loaded with real-life stories of people who’ve already succeeded as copywriters. When I first started freelancing, I looked at it regularly to remind myself, “This is possible — it can be done!” (You can see some Wall of Fame stories at the end of this letter.)

Well, believe it or not — you can meet with, sit with, and talk to loads of Wall-of-Famers at the kickoff banquet. They’re living, breathing proof that you can do this, too. They’re also easy to chat with and great to bounce ideas off of.

Let’s face it. Not everybody understands the freelancing lifestyle. Our challenges are different from other careers. If you have support from your family and friends, that’s important. But, there’s extreme value in meeting people who are in the same line of work as you. They understand the challenges you’re up against like no one else can. They know what it takes to put yourself out there as an entrepreneur.

Trust me, you’ll find a lot of people you relate to. Bootcamp attendees come from all walks of life. They’re all ages with widely varied backgrounds. There’s no such thing as a typical copywriter, so you already fit in.

“Getting to know some of my peers was quite enlightening … I met people from all walks of life and from many countries.”

– Gary W. H.,
Mesa, AZ

You’ll meet men, women, young, old, grandparents, twenty-somethings, and folks from all over the globe. Your fellow attendees also come from every previous profession imaginable — bartender, dentist, truck driver, stay-at-home-parent, engineer, auto mechanic … you name it.

The point is, you’re all like-minded and share an empowering life goal. No matter what your story or background, you’ll have one thing in common: your unique desire to make a better life for yourself through copywriting.

Did I mention — because this has always impressed me — that most of the Wall-of-Famers come back year after year as well? No doubt, they come to sharpen their skills and connect with old friends. But, there’s something more. They also come to revive their own energy … get their own shot of adrenaline. Because truly, no matter where you are in your copywriting career, Bootcamp propels you forward.

Not The Social Type? Not A Problem!

Personally, I’m not a fan of big gatherings. Mingling with strangers and talking about the weather isn’t really my style.

“The most lasting benefit I got from the experience (of Bootcamp) is likely to be the friendships I made there. I am part of a group of 5 really different and wonderful women who are all committed to our own and each other’s success. I could never have imagined that such a strong bond could be forged so quickly … I know we will be friends forever.”

– Tracy M.,
Lake Grove, NY

That’s another way Bootcamp will surprise you. It’s nothing like other conferences, where conversation feels stiff and formal. It’s also not the kind of event where people already have established “cliques” and run away at the end of the day to do their own thing. Instead, folks linger after the presentations and meals. And I’m not just talking about attendees — the presenters and VIPs linger, too. You can walk right up and talk to them, and they’ll welcome you.

In fact, you can usually find a load of them in the hotel bar each night. That’s actually where I had a great conversation with Paul Hollingshead and Michael Masterson at last year’s Bootcamp.

There’s nothing awkward about it. It constantly surprises me to discover how friendly and easy to talk to people are.

In all honesty, you get more than you pay for. Far more.

The Quickest Way To Make Money Is To Attend

We’ve all faced that Catch-22: You can’t attend till you make some money, but the quickest way to make money is to attend.

Because, really — not only is it highly likely you’ll become a paid copywriter, post-Bootcamp, you’ll also walk away with benefits you can’t even put a price on. Things that help you earn more money further down the road. The most important one, in my opinion, is the support system.

By that, I mean the solid net of support you’ll get from other copywriters at Bootcamp. After all, you share the same goals, hopes, and fears. They’re not your competition (which I once feared other copywriters would be). They’re your teammates, and they understand your goal of wanting to succeed as a freelancer.

“The Peer Reviews were a great experience … very empowering … excellent feedback! Bootcamp offered great content, terrific staff, wonderful new colleagues and friends. Will I be back? Yes!”

– Mike S.,
Lewisville, TX

“The critique session, especially, went a long way toward boosting my confidence. I spent today going through the many spec assignments I picked up at Job Fair and deciding on the ones I am going to submit. So, I am now happily beginning my copywriting career journey, or as I like to think of it, my ‘Millionaire March!’”

– Toni P.,
Accokeek, MD

No matter how far this copywriting journey takes you, you’ll always benefit from connection within the copywriting world. First off, there’s the issue of friends helping friends, whether it means critiquing promos, sharing projects, or brainstorming ideas.

In fact, that’s how copywriter Henry Bingaman started his climb to become a top health copywriter. He relies on a peer review system to polish up his promos, many of which pull in at least a million dollars (often with 5% – 8% royalties, which you can imagine brings him a huge bonus!).

Personally, I’ve never been through a peer review that didn’t make my own copy a lot stronger.

Not only will you learn how to do specialized peer reviews at Bootcamp, you can also get professional critiques of your work. In other words, you can show up with an actual project and get feedback on how to make it better. It can even be your own self-promotional piece. That’s worth the cost of Bootcamp alone, given that reviews you pay for can run into the thousand-dollar range.

But, you have to be there. That’s why AWAI, thank goodness, is offering an incredibly helpful installment option. If you spread the payments out between now and October, your investment will be trimmed down to small, doable chunks that bring you that massive payoff you want in the end.

Oh — and here’s a great reason to act now: If you do, you’ll get access to the exclusive Bootcamp member page, which includes a Bootcamp Primer (that’s 18 pages with everything you need to know to fully take advantage of this life-changing conference). That way, you’ll be even more prepared than the average attendee so you can get the most value out of Bootcamp as soon as you get there.

Now Is The Time To Take Off
And Finally LIVE Your Dream

Back in 2009, I had a hundred reasons for skipping Bootcamp. But if I had, I never would have sealed my fate as a six-figure copywriter. It actually makes me kind of nervous to think about how close I was to missing out on this lifestyle of total freedom and unlimited income.

My friend Sean McCool has a similar story. In 2008, right at the height of the financial crisis, he attended the Bootcamp Job Fair. While there, he landed a staff copywriter position with a $60 million per year marketing company. He told me it was a quantum leap in his career. In fact, thanks to the connections he made from that job and from Bootcamp 2008, Sean now works from home. What's more, he busted through the six-figure mark and cashes checks totaling $10-20K every month.

Which reminds me: JOB FAIR. That’s another thing you get from Bootcamp that’s worth more than the cost of attending. Each year, AWAI sets aside part of a day when the entire ballroom at the Marriott fills up with marketers who come specifically to hire AWAI copywriters.

Last year’s Job Fair had over fifty different companies looking to connect with AWAI-trained copywriters. Don’t worry if you have yet to land a paid assignment — they’ll still want to talk to you. You’ll already be prequalified as a skilled copywriter just on account of being an AWAI member.

“We did hire a couple of writers from your last Bootcamp and they’re doing excellent … you’ll definitely see us again at your next Job Fair.”

– Louis Hart,
Best Life Herbals

“The Job Fair was a highlight. It was great to be able to talk to the different marketers to find out what they are really looking for. There is no way I could have gotten that kind of contact from a phone call or email.”

– Brenda C.,
LaSalle, Ontario, Canada

In fact, I connected with a marketer at Job Fair who ended up giving me a small assignment. One thing led to another, and that single assignment ballooned into $18,500 worth of projects — and they’re still coming!

All I did was shake her hand and give her my card, because truthfully I’m not a born salesperson (the eye-to-eye, please-give-me-a-job conversation makes me quake).

But, like the Bootcamp presenters, the Job Fair marketers are sociable and easy to approach. They don’t care about the number of years you have under your belt. They just want to know whether you can write with enthusiasm about their products.

Connecting with even a fraction of those 50+ companies could mean thousands of dollars in projects for you. Making even one good connection might pay off tenfold down the road.

Do it now — take the next step and solidify your dream. Enroll now to qualify for the monthly installment option!

Did I Mention You Can Get Paid To Attend?

“I’ve just landed my first paid direct-mail gig, which I landed from one of the Bootcamp spec challenges. I’ll be on pins and needles until the response numbers come in, but I’m confident that this is just the first of many such assignments.”

– Tom T.,
Cincinnati, OH

Here’s one more fun thing you should know about Bootcamp: You can actually make money while you’re there. So really, you can get paid to attend!

I’m talking about walking away with money in your pocket. I actually got to do this last year — I walked away $1,000 richer. So did my friends Carol Parks and Sean McCool, along with Phillip Burmeister, Starr Daubenmire, Laurie Mock, and Pamela Welch.

How? By participating in the spec challenges. AWAI opens them up to every attendee at Bootcamp. Before the event, they let you know what promotions they have coming up. You get an open invitation to write a headline and lead for any promotion you choose (really, no more than a page or two). If they like what you’ve submitted, they’ll pay you for it on the spot. You can bank the cost of attendance before you even head home!

Do you realize what that could mean to your career? Not only does Bootcamp teach you key strategies for effective, high-paying copy, and not only will it equip you with a life-support system of peers and contacts. But on top of that, between the combination of the paying spec assignments and the Job Fair opportunities, you could leave as a working copywriter.

One Of The Safest Investments Around
(With The Biggest Payoff)

We all know the economy took a beating these past few years. All the experts say you need to invest in safe places. Well, this is about as safe as it gets. There’s a massive demand for copywriters right now — especially because of the recent recession.

According to a January 2011 issue of PRWeb, the demand for professional copywriting will surge this year — especially as businesses try to grow their client numbers with email, social media, and other types of marketing materials.

On top of that, English marketing reporter How-Do predicts copywriting skills will become more important than ever as SEO and search engines get more sophisticated.

Point is, you don’t need to waste time or money. You can’t give up on your dreams and you shouldn’t leave them on the back burner any longer. This is your year to finally go for it.

Look, I wouldn’t be so adamant about this if I weren’t actually living the dream. A few years ago, if you’d told me I would be a six-figure copywriter by my third year of freelancing, I would’ve been unconvinced, to say the least. Yet, here I am — debt-free, working from home in my slippers, and getting thousand-dollar checks on a weekly basis.

I still make mistakes from time to time, and sometimes I get in situations I’m not sure how to handle. But, instead of sitting back in fear and doing nothing (like I did my first year), I lean on the support network I built at Bootcamp. I still refer back to my notes from all the presentations. Regularly, I come across some little gem that propels me forward, onward and upward again.

Really, it’s like hooking your freelance career up to regular life support. It’s not just a one-shot high that lasts a couple of days and fades. Bootcamp truly gives you the kind of fuel you need to not only get launched as a paid copywriter, but also to stay there for the long haul.

“I just received three phone calls today from different companies who are interested in hiring me to write copy for them. This is really getting exciting. The AWAI copywriting Bootcamp was the best thing that has happened to me.”

– John K.,
Telford, PA

“I did get several paying jobs from Bootcamp, which led to more projects from those same companies. I’ve been to a couple of Bootcamps now, and found them very helpful. Because each year I made new connections and got new writing gigs … and in my case those results paid for Bootcamp several times over.”

– Kammy T.,
Laurel, MT

It’s a lot like learning how to swim. Before Bootcamp, I’d been perched on the edge of the pool, reading everything I could about swimming theory and technique. There was no fear of drowning since the pool was loaded with other people — including plenty of expert swimmers — to help me stay afloat.

“Thank you to the entire AWAI team for a well-planned and organized, informative, generous (books, drinks, discounts!) and FUN Bootcamp (my first). The attention to detail was terrific … mints, Kleenex, Purell!!! After leaving on Saturday evening, I met someone who asked me what I did. For the first time, I looked her straight in the eye and said, ‘I am a copywriter.’”

– Kathleen C., Great Barrington, MA

Here are some of those Wall-of-Famers I mentioned:

“NEVER stop believing. Don't let anyone tell you you cannot do this. I am proof you can.”

– Richard Boyd,
AWAI Member Since 2006

“That moment when you close your eyes, suck in your breath and say a silent "yes!" happened just recently when I got a royalty check in the mail. That one project has turned out to be quite profitable.”

– Starr Daubenmire,
AWAI Member Since 2006

“I’m in charge of my income now. The only ‘ceilings’ are the ones I place there myself. If I want to make more money, all I have to do is pick up a few more projects. I love that!”

– Rachel Karl,
AWAI Member Since 2009

”I am passionate about copywriting (about the effect it can have on fellow human beings and their lives) … thus, I get to do what I’m passionate about all day long.”
