AWAI’s 2009 FastTrack to Copywriting Success
Bootcamp
and Job Fair

November 4-7, 2009
Delray Beach, Florida

Preliminary Agenda …
(Subject to change)

Wednesday, November 4th
(Late afternoon – evening)

Registration will take place from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the Delray Beach Marriott Hotel lobby …

If you’re a first-timer at an AWAI Bootcamp, join us from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. for the brief orientation meeting just for you. Meet AWAI staff members and other newcomers, as well as your Bootcamp Buddy, who will make sure you have everything you need. This session is full of tips and suggestions to help you make the most of your Bootcamp experience.

We’ll officially kick-off the event at 5:30 p.m. with Opening Remarks by Herschell Gordon Lewis. If you’ve never seen Herschell in action before, get ready for an exciting ride! Herschell’s sessions are always timely and entertaining. He’ll start off this year’s Bootcamp by talking about copywriting in today’s market – including what to do about “shortened attention spans” – and how that affects the copy you write. You won’t want to miss this incredibly valuable insight, from one of the most successful copywriters of our time.

Later that evening, you’re cordially invited to join us for our annual “Wall of Fame” Networking Dinner. While enjoying a delicious meal, you can engage in conversation with AWAI’s “Wall of Fame” copywriters, Circle of Success members, the AWAI staff, and your fellow attendees, not to mention the pros!

After dinner, you’re invited to join Michael Masterson and Herschell Gordon Lewis for “What I Learned About Copywriting from Horror Films,” a special evening event including an informal conversation about their recent collaboration, including the debut of the movie trailer for “Grim Fairy Tale!”

And if you’ve still got energy, the rest of the evening is yours to:

  • Take a stroll down Atlantic Avenue …
  • Explore the local restaurants, bars, and live music …
  • Network with new friends …

But don’t stay out too late! We start Bootcamp bright and early – and go all day – so you’ll want to get a good first night’s sleep.

Thursday, November 5th
(All day, all night)

We’ll start off Thursday with a complimentary networking breakfast, beginning at 7:00 a.m.

And then, at 8:00 a.m. sharp, we’ll get right to work …

We’ll all meet in the Main Ballroom for a very special welcome and overview from Denise Ford, AWAI’s Conference Director, and Joshua Boswell, your Bootcamp Emcee.

Morning – We’ll kick-off this information-packed day with a special master class on writing leads, taught by our very own Michael Masterson, and copywriting superstar John Forde.

Next up, copywriting coach Will Newman and AWAI Co-Founder Don Mahoney will take the stage and show you how to write headlines that compel the prospect to read on, while Lori Haller shows you what all copywriters need to know about graphic design, to ensure a bad design doesn’t ruin your copy’s results!

Then just before lunch, AWAI’s own web marketing expert, Rebecca Matter, will walk you through the hottest opportunities for copywriters on the Web, before teaching you how to land them and then what to charge once you do.

Afternoon – To kick off our afternoon, we’ll dig deep into one of the most lucrative niche markets for copywriters: the Business-to-Business Market (B2B). Successful B2B copywriters Steve Slaunwhite, Ed Gandia, and Pete Savage will first give you everything you need to know to succeed in the B2B market, based on their own personal experience. And then Joshua Boswell will join in to lead a panel discussion on how to get – and keep – B2B clients.

We’ll take a quick break to let all that valuable information sink in before jumping back in …

With our dual-track sessions for new and advanced levels, you’ll have the opportunity to brush-up on your copywriting skills or dig deeper with a particular technique.
If you are new to Bootcamp, Will Newman and master copywriter Jen Stevens will teach you how to create desire in your prospect. If you are familiar with this process, you’ll want to attend the Master Class with copywriting legend Don Hauptman as he reveals the key to your promotion’s success.

Evening – After a dinner break, we’ll meet back at 7:30 p.m. for a special session about getting clients. Chris Marlow will show you how to determine the niche market which will be most profitable for you – and how to find clients in that niche ...

Our “getting clients” evening is always a highlight of Bootcamp – one you don’t want to miss!

Friday, November 6th
(All day, all night – we don’t call it Bootcamp for nothing!)

Friday is a BIG day, so make sure you’re well-rested. A complimentary networking breakfast will begin at 7:00 a.m.

Morning – First thing, we’ll open with a panel discussion on other ways to make money with your copywriting skills. Learn from AWAI alumni who are making additional income with these unique writing opportunities.

After a break, you’re in for a rare treat …

Because legendary copywriter and marketer Dan Kennedy is taking time out of his own popular Info Summit, to attend the AWAI Bootcamp and present TWO master classes on copywriting … unlike any you have ever seen so far.

In fact, one of the many things he’s going to talk about at Bootcamp is how you can start amassing the clients you want, without advertising. And, show you ways to keep them forever, get better and better fees from them, ensure great results, take charge of the “you-client” relationship, and build your career beyond what you ever thought a freelance writer could earn.

When it comes to advertising legends, Dan is one of the few men who can be mentioned in the same breath as people like David Ogilvy, Gene Schwartz, Claude Hopkins, and Jay Abraham.

Dan Kennedy is, without question, very much a “titan” of the copywriting business. And at this year’s Bootcamp, you’ll get to learn from him firsthand.

Afternoon – This afternoon is all about JOB FAIR, where you’ll meet with representatives of major direct-response companies … ask questions … learn about current job opportunities for copywriters … network with fellow attendees … and much, much more!

Marketers are being added to our present list of participants every day. Check the Job Fair website on a regular basis for updates – http://www.awaionline.com/jobfair/

If you’re a newcomer to Job Fair, be sure to take advantage of the special session with Katie Yeakle, AWAI Executive Director, from 2:15 – 3:00 p.m. You’ll find out what to expect from Job Fair, what the marketers expect from you, and how to make the most of your experience. It is inside information that will increase your success at Job Fair!

Immediately following the Job Fair, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., you’ll join the AWAI staff and all the Job Fair marketers for a cocktail reception, where you can ask questions and network in a less formal atmosphere.

Evening – back by popular demand, Gary Hennerberg will guide you through his professional tips for successfully turning spec challenges into paying assignments. This entertaining yet action-packed plan will help you land that dream client! If this is your first Bootcamp and Job Fair, you won’t want to miss this incredibly valuable session.

Saturday, November 7th
(We’ll wind up mid-afternoon)

Saturday’s complimentary networking breakfast will be served from 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. Make sure your brain is all fired up, because you won’t want to miss a minute of this morning’s line-up …

Morning – AWAI copywriting success Joshua Boswell will kick off the final day by sharing with you his insights into actually getting it all done. Because coming to Bootcamp is only the first big step … The next step is using what you learn to grow your own copywriting business, and make your own dreams a reality. And Joshua will make sure you have a plan of action to ensure your success in the coming months.

Afterwards, master copywriter Clayton Makepeace will take the stage, to present a master-level class on taking your copywriting to the next level.

And finally, Michael Masterson and Mike Palmer will teach you ways to help you get good ideas quicker and turn out copy more efficiently and effectively, using their

Mini Review, Peer Review, and CUBA systems.

Afternoon – From approximately 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., we’ll all get together for AWAI’s 2009 Awards Luncheon, where we’ll award the “Copywriter of the Year,” the winners of this year’s Copywriting Spec Challenge, and more! A complimentary lunch will be served.

This will be followed by closing remarks (from your hosts Joshua Boswell and Denise Ford) and then you’re invited to join us for a farewell reception, where we’ll send you off celebrating your success!
