I'm Finally Following Rebecca's Advice
Christina Gillick here – taking over The Writer’s Life this week.
Right now, as you read this, I’m finally taking advantage of the hottest opportunity of 2011.
This week, I’m going to tell you why I came around – I’m actually revamping my business to include projects and clients in this area – and how you can get in on the action in this lucrative writing niche.
You see, way back in January, Rebecca Matter told us to take advantage of social media.
She proved her point by finding and sharing several job ads of companies who were looking for social media experts.
(Social media is basically a group of websites that provide a place for their users to share messages with their friends, colleagues, or even strangers. Social media experts use these sites to help their clients attract more customers.)
But I wasn’t quite ready to hear Rebecca’s message.
I felt I already had too much going on, that I was too busy trying to “make it” as a copywriter, and I didn’t have time to be a social media expert too.
But the truth was I had fallen for several myths about a career in that niche. So I just wasn’t confident enough to put myself on that path.
I thought stuff like:
- The market is too saturated …
- I’m not tech savvy enough to explain social media to my clients …
- Social media is always changing, so I won’t be able to keep up …
- My current clients don’t need social media services …
But, as fate would have it, I didn’t have a choice in the matter.
Within a few months, I received several requests from clients to help with social media. A few wanted me to do it all: create their strategy, manage their profiles, and engage with potential customers through their social networks like Facebook. One even wanted me to train their staff to use social media effectively.
Faced with the choice to adopt social media or turn work away, I got Nick Usborne’s program, How to Make Money as a Social Media Expert, and pored through it in just a few days.
I learned that not only was working in social media easier than I thought … but it was fun and lucrative too.
And all those negative myths I’d heard? They turned out to be big fat lies.
I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did, so I’m going to spend this week ripping those myths to shreds and giving you the confidence you need to join me as a social media expert.
There’s never been a better time. Use of social media for businesses is growing fast and is showing no signs of slowing down.
According to Office of Advocacy estimates, in 2009, there were 27.5 million businesses in the United States. But a Network Solutions survey says only 27 percent of small businesses are taking advantage of Facebook.
And they’re falling behind even more with the other popular social media networks: only 18 percent use LinkedIn, 8 percent use a location-based service, 8 percent blog, and only 7 percent are taking advantage of Twitter.
But these same businesses increasingly need social media to market their businesses. They just don’t recognize the value right now or know how to do it.
That’s where you come in.
You have the chance to help millions of small businesses right now. They need us to get their businesses online, create their social media strategies, and catch up with their competition.
The social media market is wide open – and growing. Social media really is the hottest opportunity this year – and probably will be for the next few years.

Social media fascinates me, and I'm a gregarious, "social" type, so I ought to take to it like a fish to water. So what's holding me back? I'm also busy trying to learn copywriting and web writing and develop my own moneymaking website -- and for some odd reason, I've gotten the impression that social media is dominated by kid stuff -- like teenagers twittering about Angelina Jolie or whether Jen Aniston will find true love or whether Ashton and Demi are breaking up. I know, I know, I'm wrong.

Dear "Abby" Christina...
You asked "what's holding you back?" ...well here it is; I detest Facebook! The little bit I've forced myself to read seems to be loaded with such a mountain of trivia that it pains me to continue wading through it. For the life of me, I can't believe anyone would care what I (or anyone else for that matter), was planning on having for breakfast, or what color shoes someone might happen to be wearing.
Of course...in my more sober reflections...I must grudgingly realize that it can't be Facebook...let's face it, how could several million people all be wrong? too many people are enamored by it, (held captive by an inanimate, desulitory, all-enveloping, captivating medium), so I must painfully admit that, it...must be me.
What I'd much rather be doing is to read good books and write catchy ads, essays and even ghost-write for someone and let them take the credit. Doesn't bother me a bit...(that way I can stay anonymous, just like I

The thing I think that is holding me back is fear. I have bought several courses of the years from AWAI read completed them and have gone no farther than that. And accourse money is always a factor that stops me.I always feel I not ready (or good enough) to go on Lynn
