Crossing Over: The Birth of a Copywriter

So, all this week we’ve been talking about birthing a career as a copywriter.

If you’ve missed any of the conversation, you can read about it here: there’s the initial conception stage, followed by the first, second, and third trimesters.

Today’s stage, though, is the best of all: the birth.

Just like having a baby, formally giving birth to your career is life-changing.

It’s where you cross-over to the “other side” and receive something tangible, beautiful, and forever rewarding.

It’s where your dream becomes a permanent reality. Your identity gets forever enmeshed in this monumental decision you’ve made.

Because of your choice, you know the future holds some incredible years.

Sure, you’ll have a few ups and downs now and then. You may have to consult some guidebooks or get advice from experts.

But the bottom line is that you’ll figure it out now that your path has been laid and you are firmly on it.

If you’re on the verge of crossing over and you still have fears, know that you’re not alone.

I may be able to claim I’m a six-figure copywriter now, but I’d be lying if I didn’t confess to doubts throughout the trek that got me there.

What really helped me, was knowing that I wasn’t alone. If I hadn’t been to Bootcamp where I made friends and met others on the same path, I might have given up long ago.

But knowing that there were others working toward the same goal — some of whom were already on the other side — made all the difference in keeping me going.

I’m using the same theory to power through the birthing process I’m about to face …

It’s pretty easy to get freaked out about giving birth, especially if you watch any Hollywood-esque interpretation of the screaming and the blood and the way women can completely lose control.

I prefer another approach. It’s the one that reminds me millions of women from past generations have done what I’m about to do. It’s also where I trust my body and my own abilities instead of giving in to fear.

Though I’m totally prepared, I realize my baby may not come tomorrow. After all, a new life can’t always be planned down to the minute, or even the calendar day.

The same is true for your copywriting career. You may not cross over on the exact day you hope to. Your breakthrough moment might come later, or even earlier than the same turning point experienced by other writers.

But the point is, it will come. You’ll get there, and the thousand-fold rewards you’ll receive by having taken a risk will make the entire journey more than worth it.
