Your 3-Week Challenge Starts Now
How are your New Year’s Resolutions coming along?
Don’t worry if you aren’t moving towards them as fast as you’d like.
It’s like I mentioned earlier this week … strive for progress, not perfection. So long as you continue doing at least one thing each day to move you forward, you’ll be fine.
Either way, there’s a great piece of advice I’d like to share with you today.
I can’t remember exactly who said it or where I heard it.
But it goes something like this:
“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” (By the way, feel free to post in the comments section here if you know who said that quote. I’d greatly appreciate it.)
There’s so much truth to this quote, it’s not even funny.
Just think: Practically everyone who makes a New Year’s Resolution is pumped up and excited to get going on their goals. And for the first week or so, they do great. But then they stop.
Why?
Because they still haven’t turned those new actions into habits.
Dr. Maxwell Maltz, author of Psycho-Cybernetics writes that any repeated action takes 21 days to become a habit.
So it should follow that if you can push yourself to do one new action that will move you towards your goal for the next 3 weeks, pretty soon you’ll be on autopilot in terms of reaching your goal.
Sounds pretty simple, right?
That’s why today I’d like to issue you this challenge:
- Pick a goal you’d like to achieve.
- Now identify one action you KNOW will move you towards it. For example, if it’s to lose weight, then you could pick walking around the neighborhood for 45 minutes EVERY DAY. If it’s to become a PAID copywriter, it could be to contact one new client M-F. You get the idea.
- Commit to doing this one thing EVERY DAY for the next 21 days.
- Post your experiences and let us know how you’re doing in the comments section below.
- Rinse and repeat with a new action.
So that’s the challenge. Do you accept?
I hope so!

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” This quote was by Jim Ryun, American Former Track Athlete and Politician, 1996 to 2007 representing 2nd District of Kansas.

"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." Jim Ryun, an American athlete, who broke the 4 min. mile in running is the author of that quote. A paraphrased version of a quote I use for motivation is, "It's ok to do something poorly until you get better, just do something."

Slight correction... Jim Ryun said it, but was not the first man to run sub-4 in the mile. That, of course, was Roger Bannister of England. My bad...

Sorry, I tried to send this info directly back to Mr. G. Rubio but it would not go - looked neat there - and maybe not so here: (I was very impressed with similar info I got in looking up who stated what he wrote)(Jack Vitvitsky):

Mr. Rubio Dear Sir:
According to Google you may find the following - and I just chose one of the items offered (and with a few other bits of wisdom thrown in):
"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." Jim Ryun
"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." Helen Keller "Your vision should be big enough to continually pull you forward." James Ray "The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedi

Jim Rohn; financial advisor is credited with stating "motivation gets you started and Habit keeps you going. However, I read a similar statement by Napoleon Hill in the "Law of Success" long before I had heard of Jim Rohn. Also, it takes 21 to 35 days of CONCIOUS thought and ACTION to creat a new habbit to replace an old one. Even then, Every time you let your guarded thought slip out of control the old habbit will take over because the "groove" in your brain for it is deeper, Until the new "groove" is deeper. because of the way the brain works the original habbit will still be there, just not accessed unless given power by letting the new habit deteriate. In the eight wonder of the world (compound interest) you start with a penney and build to a fortune by doubling everyday for 31 days. All habits are the same you start very small and they grow in stregnth every time it is repeated. Are you're pennies of habit compounding for your good or for your fal

I heard a saying similar to yours, which I keep on my inspiration board.
ABILITY is what you're capable of doing MOTIVATION determines what you do, and ATTITUDE determines how well you do it
