What It Means To Be A Six-Figure Writer

I want to share something deeply personal with you.

It’s on a topic that profoundly interests aspiring copywriters.

Specifically, I want you to know what it means to be a six-figure copywriter. Or, at least what it means to me.

If you missed my story this week, I hit six figures in my third full year of copywriting – $100,593 to be exact.

It didn’t come easy. My first year, I didn’t set specific goals … and I struggled with a lot of self-doubt. I barely pulled in $21,000.

My second year, I had some life changes to contend with. One was the blessing of a new baby. Another was the quandary over what type of parent I would be. The doting, nurturing mother? The driven, high-earning entrepreneurial role model? Both? – Was that even possible?

That year, I didn’t even double my income from the first year.

My third year, I decided I’d done enough floundering. Either I had what it takes, or it wasn’t meant to be. That’s why I went public with my goal through the Wealthy Web Writer’s Reality Blog.

In the end, I didn’t prove myself to be a brilliant writer. Capable of learning, certainly, but not carrying any streak of innate genius that would land me a big payoff.

I discovered instead that this promise, this lifestyle, is real. There’s a real demand for copywriters out there. High fees are available. With the right training, the right support, and a focused goal, you can go as far as you want. And that’s before you even have the right to call yourself an “expert.”

Now that last year is behind me, the fact I earned six figures is really just icing on the cake.

More important is that I don’t feel limited in any way … and never will again.

It’s like I’ve been handed a magic genie lamp, but I don’t need the genie. Thanks to what I’ve learned as a freelance copywriter, I know I can achieve anything I want. All I have to do is decide.

Not many other careers give you that kind of life satisfaction. That feeling of knowing you’ll never have to choose again.

I’m not saying I’ll never face challenges. I will, I know. But my quandaries will never again be about money or time or the freedom to do what I want.

Tomorrow is my birthday. I can’t tell what my new year will hold, but I know it’s loaded with attractive possibilities.

Those same possibilities are at your fingertips … when will you grab them?

  1. I've been floundering. A big wobble in my marketing strategy? A smattering of ignorance about writing for the web. It matters but what to do? Along came the Web Intensive Home Study Program, with an offer putting it within reach. Still hesitated. Mindy added to the mix saying what a difference it made to her success. I enrolled yesterday. I'll be able to approach future clients with confidence! Thank you Mindy. May you have a wonderful birthday and fantastic year!!

  4. Hi!

Judy - Thank you so much for the kind wishes! And I'm so glad you feel like you're moving forward from floundering (a feeling I know well). I still revisit my notes from last year's web intensive - undoubtedly I'll do the same for this year's. I hope you enjoy just as much helpful value!

Patricia - Thank you! That makes my day.:)

Krystian - Thank you so much for writing in - it really means a lot! I'm glad to know you're firmly on the track to success. I look forward to meeting you too!
