The Best Time To Begin Your Writer’s Life Is …

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions from new and aspiring copywriters.

Most of them ask me, “How do I decide when to start? What’s the best time?”

I’m going to tell you what I tell them … but first, I want you to know why they’re asking me.

I guess you could say I’m a copywriting “success story.” I didn’t know anything about this industry when I first started, yet I earned over $100,000 by my third full year as a freelancer.

I did it publicly, too. If you’ve ever heard of the Reality Blog over at the Wealthy Web Writer … well, that’s me.

My 2010 New Year’s Resolution was to break six figures. I promised myself I’d do it, come hell or high water (or even failure). That’s why I posted the ups and downs of my journey, twice a week, every week for a year.

Sometimes it was easy, sometimes not so much.

Like all of us, I had plenty of obstacles to manage. I started that breakout year with a six-month-old baby. By the end of the year, that baby was an active toddler and I was pregnant again.

Believe me, there were plenty of times, especially in the final months of 2010, when I thought to myself, “Why now? Why did I decide this would be my breakout year?”

I fantasized about what my life would be like down the road. My son would be more independent … I’d be able to go on regular caffeine highs … it would all just be easier.

Gradually, I realized those fantasies were just an excuse. How do I know I won’t be even busier down the road? Why on earth would I choose to wait when I could launch my goal of having personal freedom and unlimited income right now?

Michael Masterson once pointed out that loads of people never become what they dream of because they simply can’t find the time to get started. He says your goal of living the cherished writer’s life will never happen if you can’t move past the basic desire to do it. You have to take action.

Look around – there are loads of other people taking action despite what life throws at them. Rebecca recently shared Richard Boyd’s incredible story. He’s not letting a diagnosis of MS keep him from his dreams.

Another copywriter I know kept pushing forward with her dream despite her husband’s diagnosis of a brain tumor. Still other copywriters have faced divorce, the death of a parent, kids leaving for college, and cross-country moves.

Point is, life is going to happen no matter what. Wouldn’t it be better if you got to realize your dream along the way?

One of the quickest ways to do that is through web copywriting. If you want the fast track to web writing success, I suggest you get the Web Intensive Home Study Program. You’ll glean every trade secret of the industry revealed at this year’s 2011 Web Intensive – including how to land clients, fast.

I know I’ll be taking advantage of all the new secrets revealed … even if I can only do it in between snack spills and diaper changes.

If you’d like to learn more about the world of web copywriting, I invite you to read an article I wrote recently called Looking for the Next Great Freelancing Opportunity – mostly because it’ll explain why it’s so easy to make a six-figure income within this specialty.

And if you have any questions or comments for me, feel free to post them below the article! I’d love to chat with you about what you’re doing to reach the writer’s life too.
