How to Work at Home More Effectively
"It is the greatest shot of adrenaline to be doing what you've wanted to do so badly."
I can relate to Lindbergh.
I've had a serious case of "copywriter's high" ever since I left my corporate job two years ago in March. It's kind of like the endorphin rush from the so-called "runner's high," except you don't have to get all sweaty and pound the pavement for an hour.
Nope, this is even better.
It's been a long and winding road, with a few killer hills along the way.
But the view from the top of those hills is spectacular!
When I first told people about my dream of becoming a copywriter back in 2005, I got mixed reactions.
My retired parents couldn't understand how anyone could live without a salary and employer-paid health insurance.
Casual friends thought it was a pipe dream.
Close friends encouraged me to go for it.
Colleagues (who disliked their jobs even more than I did) were envious.
I held off on telling my employer until a month before I left, for obvious reasons. (Ironically, I found out about AWAI while surfing the net on a lunch break at my job!)
And fortunately, my wife supported me 100%.
So, has it worked out?
Well, I wouldn't trade the last two years for anything. I've finally replaced my corporate income, I'm in command of my time, and I've been able to pursue my passion of traveling.
At the same time, I'm nowhere near where I want to be as a copywriter. It's a never-ending journey of growth and development. I have some huge goals.
It's one of the reasons I'm currently immersed in Nick Usborne's How to Be a Social Media Expert. Social media seems to be the 2011 Internet version of the 1849 gold rush, and I plan on staking my claim.
It's also the reason I'm taking four days out of my busy schedule to go to the Web Copywriting Intensive at the end of next week. I can't imagine a better way to invest my time and money.
Over the course of this week, I'm going to give you a peek inside the walls of my home office, and the challenges I've faced working from home.
I'll also give you a brief look inside my mind (not always a pretty picture) and show you how I've overcome these obstacles to grab my share of the writer’s life.
We’ll start with one of the biggest obstacles freelance writer face: isolation.
Check out my article on that obstacle and how you can overcome it here. And then share your own thoughts for overcoming isolation or other challenges you’re facing by posting a comment below it.
My hope is that by the end of this week you’ll be one step closer to grabbing your own share of the writer’s life, too.
