Get Clients to Come to You …
Without Ever Leaving Your House
Or Making a Single Phone Call

Most copywriters dislike doing it. But it’s a necessary “evil.”

I’m talking about marketing your services. Whether it’s through cold calling, mailing self-promotional letters to potential clients, or networking in person, you may be intimidated by the idea of “selling yourself.”

And you’re not alone. It’s one of the most popular topics every year at our annual Bootcamp.

But what if I told you there’s a way to turn the tables … and have interested clients calling and emailing YOU instead?

AWAI member Jim Turner has figured out how to do just that.

In fact, Jim has landed 13 clients in the past 12 months. Without ever leaving his home or making a single call.

How did he do it?

Social networking.

In case you’re not familiar, social networking is a way to connect with like-minded people using web tools like Facebook or Twitter.

When social-media sites first came out, most people thought they were just for kids or having fun. But that perception is changing fast.

Bob Bly, once a social-networking skeptic, says, “The next big thing in Internet marketing is social networking. Unless you are living in a cave, you can’t help but notice the money being made from social-networking sites.”

For you as a copywriter, social networking is a great fit … especially if you’re shy about “selling” your services. Because after all, social networking isn’t about talking to people face to face or over the phone.

It’s simply about providing short, useful, interesting content.

Here’s what I mean …

The way most social-networking sites work … is by connecting you to other people who share your same interests, passions, goals, etc.

This is done by inviting them to become a part of your online social network. Once part of your network, these people can then see your profile and what you’re up to.

You regularly post updates and your thoughts about any subject you want to write about for all your friends to see.

The trick to making social networking work for you as a copywriter, is to invite people who’d be potential clients into your network. Then, through your daily updates and posts, they start to view you as an expert.

Eventually, when they need a copywriter for a project, you’ll be the first who comes to their mind.

So, how can you get started? Simple. Here are four steps you can follow:

  1. Go to the various social-media sites, and sign up for a free account.
  2. Search for people who might be potential clients. Each site will have search options so you can search by interest, profession, or even hobbies. Then, invite them into your network.
  3. Regularly update your network with copywriting and marketing tips. If you come across a cool link or an article on another site, let them know about it. In short, simply share what you know in bite-sized pieces.
  4. Repeat steps two and three. Constantly add new people into your network. It increases the chances that you’ll find someone who needs your services. Do this regularly and, without a doubt, potential clients will start contacting you.

These four steps are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to successfully using social networking to gain a steady stream of new clients.

1 Response to “Find New Clients Using Social Networking”

  1. This article, along with the one on the Golden Thread today, was a real kick in the pants for me! I've started writing web copy for a web designer (who can't understand why nobody wants to write for THEIR OWN WEB SITE! lol)and am spreading out in various directions with the resume writing/counseling, grant writing, and other projects. I never considered the "social" sites as potential for advertising my service, but now have so many ideas about it and have been wanting to start some blogs, etc., that I'll probably be up late tonight setting up some places! Thanks so much for sharing ideas like this with us - sometimes our preconceived notions keep us from seeing the forest. You all are terrific in your help and support of us - especially us "late bloomers" with the program.
