Let the News Come to You

Have you signed up for a Google Alert yet?

If not, you might want to consider using this great (and free) service Google provides. It’s one of the easiest ways to keep on top of the latest news and Internet postings about topics you’re interested in.

If you’re a copywriter you might want to create an alert for the word “copywriter”. I’ve set up an alert and every so often I get an email listing each time the word “copywriter” appears in a Google News, Web or Blog search.

The links provided are not always worthwhile, but more often than not there is some great content at the other end.

Here is a small sample of the articles my “Copywriting Google Alert” has brought to my attention:

• 10 Advertising Words to Avoid in 2009
• Top 10 Website Copywriting Secrets
• The Way “Copywriting” Got It’s Name
• How do our mindsets play a role in writing killer copy?
• The 12 Causes for Advertising Failure

If you’re an SEO copywriter and want to keep up-to-date on the latest SEO news, set up a Google Alert on the phrase “Search Engine Optimization”.

If you recently bought Nick Usborne’s new “How To Write a Money Making Website” program, set up a Google Alert on the topic you’ve chosen for your site. You’ll be among the first to know when it makes news. Plus it could prove to be an excellent source for new page ideas.

A Google Alert is also an easy way to follow your favorite sports team or celebrity. If you’re a big David Hasselhoff fan, it’s a great way to keep up with his latest antics. Or if you want to monitor a fast breaking story, it only takes a second to sign up and you’ll immediately start receiving updates into your inbox.

You can set up to a maximum of a 1,000 Alerts (if you don’t have a (free) Google account you’ll need to set one up). You can choose to receive your alerts once a day, once a week, or as it happens. And it only takes a few seconds to cancel an Alert.

On top of News, Web and Blog Alerts and Comprehensive Alerts (contains News, Web Blog alerts all in the same email), you can also set up Video and Google Group alerts.

So why not let the news you need come to you? Take advantage of this fun, informative, convenient service from Google.
