Announcing …
The Great AWAI Blog-Off Competition

Being a web writer means you write. A lot!

And practicing is the only way you actually get good at it.

If you’re not already, I highly recommend you set aside time every day to write. Even if it’s just a short amount, that’s ok. The important thing is to write every day.

I recently started a blog around one of my passions – cooking. And, as well as eventually becoming a passive income stream for me thanks to Nick Usborne’s new program, it gives me the perfect opportunity to practice my writing every day.

Today I’d like to offer you a unique opportunity to practice your own writing …

As well as get some experience … and get paid to do it.

Let me back up …

Yesterday I started building the website for AWAI’s Web Division.

I decided that a blog should be a big part of it, since it’s a great tool for having a conversation with you and your fellow web writers, it helps dramatically with search engine rankings, and it gives our web writers an outlet to practice their own writing.

But when I looked at my own writing schedule, I realized I had better hire a blogger sooner rather than later to help me with it.

With all the writing I do for AWAI, Wealthy Web Writer and Spare-Time Biz Success, there’s no way I will be able to take on the Web Division’s blog too.

So, what do you think? Are you interested?

The Great AWAI Blog-Off …

If so, then let’s have some fun with this … and turn it into a little competition.

Here’s what I’d like to do …

If you’re interested in the blogging project, write a sample blog post for me to review.

I’ll then personally review all of the submissions and choose my favorite five to participate in a “Blog-Off.”

If your blog post is chosen, AWAI will pay you $400 to write four more blog posts that will be published on the AWAI website during the month of May.

That’s $100 for maybe an hour of your time each week.

Not too bad for an hourly rate!

Readers of Wealthy Web Writer will vote and comment on their favorites. The winner – AWAI Web Division’s New Official Blogger – will be chosen by the AWAI Web Team based on the amount of blog comments and votes received.

If you win, you’ll get an ongoing contract of $500 a month to write a weekly blog. In addition, you’ll be eligible for other web–writing assignments from AWAI’s Web Division.

Here’s How to Enter …

Since it’s a blogging gig, we’ll keep it simple.

Step 1: Write your blog post!

Be sure to check out the pointers below on what makes a good blog post. And then write a blog entry to your fellow readers about why you should be chosen. Demonstrate your writing style, and tell them what they can expect to read from you.

Step 2: Submit your entry by April 29th.

Once you’ve written your blog post, send it to wealthywebwriter@awaionline.com with the subject line: Blog Submission. Include your name, email address, and a daytime phone number where we can reach you if we have any questions.

That’s it! You’ll automatically be in the running to win the job as my weekly blogger for Wealthy Web Writer!

Three Tips for a Successful Blog Post …

Whether you’re blogging for me, a client, or for your own self-promotion, keep in mind the following tips:

  1. Write in your personal voice.

Remember, you’re not writing for a company … you’re writing for your fellow web writers. Just like when writing direct-response copy, write to one person, like you’re having a conversation with him.

  2. Write to engage your readers.

Blogs are different in that you’re trying to have a conversation with your readers. You want their feedback and comments. So think about that dialogue when choosing your topics and writing about them. It’s not a one-way conversation.

  3. Have strong, interesting content.

This one is pretty obvious. If you write something interesting, people will want to read it.

So now you have the details. Have fun with it!

I look forward to reading your submission and kicking off “The Great AWAI Blog-Off” next month.

  1. Rebecca, Do you have a direction you want the blog to go? Is the only goal that it be copywriting-related for SEO?

Should it be similar in topics covered and flavor to the Wealthy Web Writer? Is the audience current members, future members, or both? Is it okay to link to non-AWAI folks, which the articles on this site don't tend to do? Are pictures allowed?

Or all these all things to worry about later and it's up to us as the writer to pick something to submit?

  2. That's me! I've been working to overcome this and other things that have held me back in my life. I look forward to a better life with the tools available to create it. This site is a treasure house and a real asset for those who are ready to step up and go for it.
I could realy use Nick's tips.

  3. Hello Rebecca, I think it's a great ice-breaking opportunity for me to be able to test my own public writing potentials for the first time.
I am entering the contest and even if I am not selected, I will still have the satisfaction of having had the experience of testing my skills against other dynamic writers...Untill...

  4. Hi Rebecca!

Question for you - do you see this site also covering podcasting and/or vlogging or is there another venue for those topics?

Great idea to have a contest for it!

  6. Hi Rebecca,

Your Wealthy Web Writer site was/is very helpful for me because in the beginning I didn't exactly know what the next step was.

Although I am still in the AWAI Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting (almost done!)which I highly recommend, I definitely want to join your Great AWAI Blog-Off Competition for fun!

Writing blogs for you will be more fun---especially since I joined the recent AWAI B2B copywriting Webinar. I will have interesting ideas about B2B as I go thru my learning process by using the guides that the B2B copywriting gurus provided from the webinar.

P.S. Leave the unique and interesting storytelling bit --- it's on me!
