For Eager and Ambitious Copywriters, the Modern Day Version of the California Gold Rush Is Taking Place right Now
As I type this, there are literally tens of thousands of companies looking for someone who can say …
“I know why your visitors are bored by your homepage … I know why your landing and sales pages hardly generate any revenue … I know why people click the “back” button on their browser when they see your subscription page. I can see all the points of weakness of your website and I know how to fix them."
Truth is, most websites are ineffective. They fail miserably when it comes to doing the job they were designed to do.
Sure a company can make their site look pretty with flash and fancy graphics, but here’s the bottom line …
… if a website doesn’t contain the right words it will never convert visitors into buyers.
So is the opportunity for copywriters as big as the California Gold rush was for prospectors?
In one word: Yes.
“Expenditures in Internet marketing and commercial email will continue to grow in 2008, with predicted expenditures of $23.6 billion in 2008.”
– The DMA’s Power of Direct Marketing Report
According to creative recruitment firm ProfilesCreative, “The copywriter most able to demand more money for their time and expertise is the competent and reliable online copywriter.”
How much more?
Copywriters on average are paid $1,500 to write a landing page, which often amounts to less than 1,000 words.
Think about that for a second: How fast could you write less than 1,000 words … and earn a cool $1,500?
No question, the Internet is fertile ground for copywriters who take the time to learn how to write and/or improve each page of a client’s website – from the homepage right through to the information, subscription, sales and landing pages.
“While no job anywhere is secure these days, Michigan, where I live, has been particularly hard-hit. My copywriting income has definitely increased our peace of mind in a very uncertain economy.”
