Quick Tip:
Know Your Value … and Outsource Accordingly
It's tempting for freelancers to adopt the "I'll do it all myself" attitude.
But you cannot really afford to build your copywriting success AND mow the lawn, clean the garage, wash the car, or do all the many other tasks required to maintain your home.
There are so many demands on your time, it's essential to know your hourly value … and use that value to determine if a task is worth doing yourself.
Start by making an estimate of your value. If you work 40 hours a week and your goal is to make $100,000 a year, your value is $50/hour. ($100,000 divided by 50 weeks, divided by 40 hours.)
So instead of mowing the lawn yourself (at $50/hour), hire your neighbor's kid to do it for $10/hour. Use the time saved to work on copywriting projects.
You don't always have to hire an outsider to do the tasks that don't make economic sense for you. Instead, build a family team to support you and help you achieve your goals.
We know of one copywriter who sells "shares" in his copywriting business to his children. They "invest" a portion of their allowance every week by doing unpaid chores, which the older daughter keeps a careful accounting of.
They can cash in a portion of their shares periodically, or save as many as they want towards college.
This allows the copywriter to spend more time on moneymaking work, while getting his kids involved in the process.
But no matter what tasks crowd your day, always stay focused on your two main objectives: copywriting and marketing yourself.
Do that, and you'll quickly work your way to the top.
