Quick Tip: A Simple Strategy to Keep Your Copy Lively and Interesting
All writers have favorite words and phrases they use over and over. For example, I use "particularly" a great deal in first-draft copy.
As you write, take note of the words you seem to use often. Write them down. Come up with alternatives for each of them.
When you're done with your first draft, use the "Find" feature of your word processor to search for each of those words. Replace them with the alternatives on your list. Or, maybe even delete them altogether. Are they just “filler” words or are they critical to the tone and context?
Your copy will sound fresher and livelier.
