Quick Tip: Never Lose an Idea Again – "Jott" It Down
Most thoughts are slippery and short-lived. As quickly as ideas bubble into our consciousness, they evaporate.
You tell yourself, "I've got to remember that!" But your brilliant idea has made its one and only appearance.
As you well know, what goes unrecorded generally goes missing.
But that's no longer a problem if you own a cellphone and subscribe to a free service called Jott.
With Jott, all you have to do is press a key on your cellphone and dictate your thoughts. They show up in your (or someone else's) email inbox in a matter of minutes.
Here's the deal on "mobile note-taking" …
You set up a Jott account at Jott.com (NOTE: NO www) with your cell number and email address. You can then import selected email addresses (from Outlook, Gmail, AOL, etc.) for people you'd like to send your Jott messages to.
Once you assign Jott's number to a speed-dial key on your phone, it's just a matter of pressing that key to start the process. Jott answers the call: "Who'd you like to Jott?" You say: "Me" or "Lisa" or "Team A." (Yes, Jott handles groups.)
Wait for the beep, and start talking. When you're done, Jott says, "Got it." At this point, you can either enter another message or hang up. Using "speech-to-text" software, Jott transcribes your words and delivers the message.
In addition to email, you can choose to "text" the message directly to recipients' phones. The transcription isn't always perfect, but it's more than good enough to capture and communicate your perishable thoughts.
