Quick Tip: Improve Your Website’s Success by Improving Its Navigation
A good, successful website is one that’s easy to navigate. Once a visitor leaves your home page, he should be able to get back where he started – or to any other page – without having to think about how to do it.
So …
Have an obvious navigation bar at the top or along the left side of each of your pages. (Most Internet users are accustomed to seeing the bar on the left.) Make the size of the text on the bar large enough to read easily.
The colors of the navigation bar should reflect those of your company logo. Use simple foreground and background combinations with high contrast to improve visibility.
If any of your links go to someone else’s site, have that link open in a new browser window or tab so your visitor can quickly return to your site.
You should also have a text-only version of your navigation bar at the bottom of each page. This makes it even easier for users to navigate through your site.
