Quick Tip:
A Low-Cost Way to Improve Your Copy

Since we writers work solo, it’s invaluable to get input from other copywriters before handing in our copy to a client. One way to get input is to hire an experienced direct-response writer for a few hundred dollars to “copy chief” first drafts of your packages.

I do this 90% of the time – and it’s been the best money I’ve ever spent. A good copy chief can make the difference between a “B+” package and one that gets an “A” in the mail.

How do you find copy chiefs? By networking. Through people you meet at conferences or in the AWAI Members Forum. Through people you may have once worked with on staff. And through graphic designers you work with now. One of my favorite copy chiefs is a former boss!
