From The Golden Thread Mailbag …
The “Art of Persuasion”
Scott,
No doubt AWAI might be pleased to learn that I’ve landed a sizable assignment with LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell, writing a new website for a prominent Philadelphia personal injury attorney. It’s pretty much a plum of an opportunity. Got the go-ahead on it yesterday, and the contract should come through within the next couple weeks.
I got the job in response to one of those small classifieds placed in The Golden Thread, and it will go a long way toward recovering most of what I’ve put into AWAI materials over the past three years. Needless to say, I’m excited about the whole thing and anxious to get going on it.
Another part of the copywriting field that I’m crashing into, coincidentally, is one which desperately needs the skills we get from AWAI. I’m currently writing for two candidates for national office – a largely ignored market for the kind of writing we do.

Hi Bruce,
That’s great!! Thanks for reminding our members to look at the job postings in every issue of The Golden Thread.
Hi Scott,
I just want to say how much AWAI’s copywriting program has helped me. I just sent in my “Live” multi-vitamin copy about a week ago, and I already have two clients! Granted, they’re on spec, but I’m getting my feet wet … and they’ll make great samples, not to mention the boost to my confidence.

Hi Scott –
My niche is strategic storytelling. I write brochures, newsletters, some Web copy, and some print ads. What really excites ME though is writing for venture capitalists, where I get a chance to write an interesting bio. (Yeah, I like the story aspect of writing.) And I am attacking a Public Relations cold-call list to see if my skills can help them with spinning stories for their clients.
Scott, I take every kind of job now. But I’m interested in really defining a marketing/story niche. I like to work for people who are salespeople. Why? Well, you know, they understand the power of sales and justify paying a talented writer for good positioning and results.
So, considering my writing interests, which AWAI program would you recommend I take first?
– Joseph
Hi Joseph,
It looks like the type of assignments you like best have one thing in common: They require basic salesmanship – the “art of persuasion,” if you will. You have to know how to make a compelling promise with your words.
The best thing for you to start with is “The Accelerated Program for Six-figure Copywriting.” It will show you (step by individual step) the basic underlying structure of a sales letter. It’s everything you need.
And if you think you’re going to write a lot of Web copy, you might also consider our “Secrets of Writing for the Internet” niche market program.
Thanks to one and all. Keep those emails coming!
Scott
