Quick Tip:
4 Relaxation Techniques to Keep You Productive and Profitable

You cannot be at your creative best when your body or your mind is tense. Any one (or all) of the following relaxation techniques will quickly release tension and improve your creativity and productivity.

  1. Take a deep breath and hold it 5 seconds. Check for signs of tension. Then breathe out, relaxing the muscles in your arms, neck, and shoulders.
  2. Tighten your neck and draw your shoulders back hard – as if you were trying to touch your "angel wings" together. Hold for 5-10 seconds and release. Repeat several times. Now release any remaining tension by dropping your chin and slowly rolling your head from side to side. (Don’t roll your head backward! That can compress the neck vertebrae.)
  3. Sit or stand up straight. Sigh deeply (like a sigh of relief) and let the air leave your lungs. Inhale normally. Repeat 8 to 10 times.
  4. Take a walk around your house, up and down stairs, around the block – even around your desk. A walk gives you a much-needed break when you feel a lot of built-up physical tension.
