Quick Tip:
How to Use a Split Screen to Improve Your Headline and Lead
Here’s a Quick Tip from Bootcamp, courtesy of master copywriter John Forde.
When John begins writing a promotion, he knows he’ll be revising his headline and lead frequently. To make the editing more convenient, he uses a split screen.
He keeps the headline and lead open in the top frame of the screen. By doing this, he can easily copy and paste phrases from the body of the promotion into the headline/lead screen.
If you’re using Microsoft Word, you can split your screen in two ways.
- First way: On the upper right-hand side of the document window (above the slider bar), there’s a little oval-shaped split-window button with a line through it. Click and hold on this button, and then drag it downward. Resize the upper frame by clicking on the split-window button and moving it up or down.
- The second way: Go to Window > Split. When you do this, the window splits into two equal frames. Resize the upper frame the same way as above.
To remove the split, (1) click on the split-window button and drag it to the top of the document … or (2) go to Window > Remove Split.
