Quick Tip:
Use Google News Search to Strengthen Your Copy
Google News Search is a valuable resource for finding details to make your copy stronger and more compelling. It searches over 4,500 news sources, and returns results for the past two months.
We recommend using Google’s Advanced News Search. Here’s how to do it:
Go to http://news.google.com/. Click on the link at the top that says "Advanced News Search." A new page opens. (Bookmark it.)
Enter search terms in the any or all of the first four boxes in the gray area. These are:
- "with all the words" – Entering "stock options" here gives you news stories that include both of those words anyplace in the text, not necessarily together.
- "with the exact phrase" – Entering "stock options" here gives you articles that include only that exact two-word phrase.
- "with at least one of the words" – Entering "stock options" here gives you articles that include "stock" or "options" or both "stock" and "options" anyplace in the text.
- "without the words" – Entering "stock options" in the "with the exact phrase" and "Acme" in this box gives you news stories about stock options that did NOT talk about Acme Industries.
That’s not the only way to combine boxes. For example, entering "stock options" in the "with the exact phrase" box and "regulations" in the "with all the words" box finds stories about stock option regulations.
Google Advanced News Search is easy to learn and use. Practice … and you’ll soon be an expert.
