Quick Tip:
Finding Places to Talk

Speaking at local business and service clubs is a powerful strategy for finding clients. Here are some suggestions …

  1. CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. Do an Advanced Google search with "Chamber of Commerce" in the "with the exact phrase" box and all the cities and towns you’re willing to travel to in the "with at least one of the words" box.
  2. KIWANIS – an international service organization. The organization’s website – www.kiwanis.org – has a link to local chapters.
  3. LIONS CLUB – an international service organization. The organization’s website – www.lionsclubs.org – has a link to local chapters.
  4. OPTIMIST CLUB – an international service organization with an emphasis on children. The organization’s website – www.optimist.org – has a link to some local chapters. If you don’t find what you’re looking for that way, do an Advanced Google search with "Optimist" in the "with all the words" box and all the cities and towns you’re willing to travel to in the "with at least one of the words" box.
  5. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL – an international service organization. The organization’s website – www.rotary.org – has a link to local chapters.
  6. SOROPTIMISTS – an international service organization for women. Do an Advanced Google search with "Soroptimist" in the "with all the words" box and all the cities and towns you’re willing to travel to in the "with at least one of the words" box.

Another idea: Contact local business groups that host speakers at their meetings. Examples include local Torch Club chapters, groups like Boca Raton, FL’s Young Professionals, and the Siskiyou County (California) Regional Development Agency.

You can also target specific professional groups – medical, educational, or legal organizations. Where do you find them? Be creative. Look in your local newspapers and libraries for notices about meetings. Listen to local radio shows. Listen in on conversations around you. Ask your friends and associates.
